What the relocation grant is
When a home is sold through a short sale, the owner often has to move quickly, with little money set aside. Our Short Sale Relocation Grant is financial help from Abraxas Foundation, a nonprofit, to cover some of the cost of moving and getting settled in a new home.
The grant is not a loan, and you do not pay it back.
Who qualifies
You qualify if:
- You own a home in New York State
- The home is in pre-foreclosure
- You are in Abraxas Foundation’s short sale program. Everyone in the program is eligible to apply for the grant.

Do I have to pay the grant back?
No. It’s a grant, not a loan.
Is Abraxas Foundation buying my house?
No. We don’t buy homes. Through our short sale program, we work directly with your bank on the short sale.
My short sale hasn’t closed yet. Can I still apply?
Yes. You can apply while the short sale is in progress. You’re automatically considered for the grant once you start the short sale approval process with Abraxas Foundation.
I already got a cash-for-keys offer from my lender. Can I still get the grant?
You qualify for the grant only if Abraxas Foundation is handling your short sale directly with the bank.
How long does it take?
Most applicants get a decision once the bank approves the short sale.
Is my information private?
Yes. We use it only to review your application and never sell it.
